The school hosts three music lesson providers for guitar, ukulele, piano and drums. The details are as follows:
PIANO LESSONS available during school hours on Thursdays, starting 16th Feb - $25 per lesson for an individual 30 min lesson. Minimum age: 7. Term fees are to be paid at the start of the term. Lessons are held on an acoustic piano. Tutor: Rosemary Pritchard. Profile: I have taught piano for several years and hold ATCL in Solo Piano (Trinity College London). I currently teach at Te Kowhai School, Whatawhata School and have private students. GUITAR AND UKULELE LESSONS: Musiqhub is offering guitar and ukulele lessons this year on Wednesdays during school hours. MAD COW DRUMS: Since 2009 Mad Cow Drums has been teaching students the drums from as far south as Otorohanga to as far north as Huntly. With over 200 students and a specially developed way of teaching we are pleased to make the following offering to students of Whatawhata School who want to start learning drums in 2017! The cost per student is $11.75 + GST/week.
Lessons are on Fridays and will run in conjunction with the school term. Please feel free contact Glenn on 021 2020269 to confirm a spot and get more details. Please note there is no requirement for a drum kit to begin these lessons.
We create a few different sports teams each year. These include touch, netball, hockey, football and more. Details are sent out about these through the year.
We are always looking for coaches and managers to make these clubs happen. If you are able to help please let the school know
We try to provide a wide range of extra learning opportunities for our learners at lunchtimes and after school. The list of clubs for 2017 include the following:
Knitting club: Come along to the library to learn the skills of knitting with Mrs Barrett. Everyone welcome
Singing club: Mrs Inder is leading this club, open to all ages. Learn new songs and enjoy singing together. They’ll also be working towards performing at Kids 4 Kids later this year.
Walking club: Mrs Barrett and Whaea Kate head off round the block for some powerful walking while chatting with friends old and new. Everyone welcome
Creative club: Mr S and Mr Fawcett will be in the new Construction Zone having fun and getting creative with all sorts of materials and tools. Everyone is welcome to take part but you must wear covered shoes. If you have nail free timber or bamboo to spare please drop it in.
Kapa haka (poi): Whaea SJ will be working with the kapa haka girls and boys on creating brand new poi and developing the skills to use them. All welcome
Kapa haka: Kapa haka practice every afternoon, learning new waiata, waiata a ringa, haka and titi torea. Everyone is welcome. We will be refining the team down to a performance group mid year.
Senior free swim: All senior learners can head to the pool for an extra bonus swim on Wednesdays in term one!
It’s senior film club with Mrs Hogg on Thursday lunchtimes. They are looking at Dr Seuss at the moment and enjoying some of the movies.
