Learning in our classes is ever more collaborative. We are moving to this model across the school because we believe (and evidence supports the ideas) that:
In some classes (Te Kakano and Te Pihinga) children work in fully collaborative learning spaces. This means there are a large number of children supported by a number of teachers. Children have a different teacher for different learning areas. There are also times where all children are working together supported by all teachers.
In other classes (Te Kaho and Te Rakau) children work in single class size spaces with one teacher. They may work with different teachers for different learning areas and there are also times where all children are working together supported by all teachers. New spaces are being developed for these classes and, by the end of 2017, all our learners will be in one of four collaborative spaces.
- We can better support our children according to their strengths and needs
- We have shared knowledge, focus and commitment to their progress and achievement
- Children will have more time working with their teachers
- Children will work with more children at the same level as them
- Teaching and learning is closely aligned so there is much less downtime in learning over time
- We make the most of teacher’s knowledge, passions and strengths
- As teachers we can more closely support each other
